Hilary Murray has been a stalwart of volunteerism at Chatham Outreach Alliance (CORA) Food Pantry for ten years. In 2008, Hilary Murray began volunteering at CORA, and for the last ten years, she has functioned as Volunteer Coordinator, as a volunteer herself, during a phenomenal period of growth in the organization and in the demand for food support by Chatham County families.
Hilary has been instrumental in the recruiting, training and recognition of our volunteers. In the last 5 years alone she has trained almost 250 new volunteers, holding orientation/training regularly once a month. But she also schedules many orientations at the prospective volunteer’s convenience, so she is often in the pantry several days a week, even if she is introducing only one person to CORA. She makes sure that everyone who expresses an interest in volunteering for us has the chance to learn more about us and “try us out.”
In addition to acting as volunteer coordinator, Hilary has also served in other volunteer capacities in many ways. She organizes “spruce up” days at the pantry so we can put our best foot forward for open houses and special events. She has volunteered in some capacity for almost every special event in the last 7 years, whether it’s recruiting volunteers for the event, gathering homemade baked goods for dinner events, soliciting gift items from local businesses for raffles and/or volunteer prizes – she is always stepping up to help out in whatever ways she can. AND in addition to all that she finds time to volunteer regularly at UNC Hospice
The award ceremony and celebration will be held on Thursday, May 3rd at 6:00 pm at the new Agricultural Center in Pittsboro.
Thank you Hilary for all that you do for CORA.
