It’s time once again for the Feinstein Challenge,
and Chatham OutReach Alliance (CORA Food Pantry) is asking your help in making this year’s challenge as successful as last year in raising funds to feed hungry Chatham County Citizens. For the 16th consecutive year, The Feinstein Foundation will divide $1 million among hunger fighting agencies in the U.S. Last year’s Challenge raised $230 million nationwide for 2000 organizations working to provide food for our nation’s poor and people living in crisis. For CORA, the results of the Challenge were beyond our expectations. We had hoped to raise $40,000, but our totals for the 2012 Feinstein Challenge were more than $83,000 in monetary donations and more than 10,000 pounds of food! Because of your generosity and your response to this fundraising campaign, CORA was able to meet an unprecedented increase in demand for emergency food serving 5,280 families (17,094 individuals) from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012 – an increase of 22% over the previous year and an increase of 40% over two years.

All donations that CORA receives from March 1st to April 30th will be counted toward the Feinstein Challenge for a portion of $1 million.   These donations can include cash, checks and food items (valued at $1.00 per item or pound) and pledges, as long as they are donated in answer to the Feinstein Challenge.* You can make your gift by credit/debit card by going to our website at www.corafoodpantry.org or by calling me at 919-545-3030 10am – 5 pm weekdays. If donating stock is advantageous for you, we will gladly accept those gifts as well. All donations to the SNACK! program in March and April also count toward the Feinstein Challenge.

Two years ago we were serving an average of 16 families a day at the pantry. This year we are serving an average of 23 families a day. We are preparing to meet even greater demands for emergency food in the near future, and we are counting on you to help us do that. As a contributor to CORA in March and April, your donation toward this campaign makes you a partner in the most successful ongoing effort ever to fight hunger. And, just as importantly, helps your neighbors in Chatham County feed their families in difficult times.

Our Location: 40 Camp Drive in Pittsboro. We are open Monday thru Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. except state holidays.

CORA Food Pantry was founded in 1989 as the Chatham OutReach Alliance, Inc. (CORA) with the sole mission of providing emergency food to those in need throughout Chatham County. We remain exclusively focused on that founding mission.  We are a 501(c)(3) designated organization.

Our long-standing approach is to provide emergency food, not permanent assistance, to individuals and families who are thrust into a crisis because of job loss, illness or other circumstance. Clients must be referred to us by a social service agency or local church pastor.

CORA serves any Chatham County resident who needs emergency food. We are open five days a week year round. Clients can receive a week’s worth of groceries up to six times in a 12-month period. These weekly food allotments are selected to provide 21 nutritious meals for each family member.
